POSITION PROFILE

The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the day to day activities in the organization’s payroll function in a professional and knowledgeable manner. The Payroll Manager will oversee a team of payroll specialists and will provide consultation to all levels of management on Payroll processing issues, policies, compliance and practices. The Payroll Manager will report directly to the Corporate Controller.

Required Skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages a team of payroll specialists that input payroll data and prepare payroll checks/ACH payments

  • Manages the payroll function ensuring quality and timely processing of payroll activities to include: timecards and payroll processing, compilation of payroll statistics, reconciliation of payroll tax payments, filings and returns, annual W2 Forms, and all levels of record maintenance

  • Verifies changes to personnel information, and calculates overtime, bonus payments, and shift differentials

  • Analyzes, prepares, and inputs payroll data. Uses automated system to process accurate and timely payroll

  • Prepares weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports for accounting and management (e.g. payroll analytics, hours worked, tax deductions, benefit deductions)

  • Maintain a centralized and integrated payroll system; evaluate and recommend ongoing system enhancements

  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring and streamlining work activities

  • Partner with Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to improve processes and data accuracy

  • Collaborate with Human Resources to interpret company policies and government regulations in connection with payroll procedures, and directs preparation of government reports

  • Ensure all identified Sarbanes-Oxley and other recordkeeping requirements are in place and any identified issues addressed

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws

  • Partner with Finance to meet closing schedule deadlines

  • Assist with internal and external audits

  • Facilitates management and employee understanding of payroll procedures

  • Manage staff and direct reports, including hiring, training, and performance management

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred

  • 5+ years of Payroll management experience, with a multi-state, multi-national, multi-entity company

  • Previous Payroll supervisory experience for a manufacturer preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute strategically by identifying, developing, and implementing process improvements

  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws, labor regulations, and payroll requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll policies, procedures, and practices

  • In-depth knowledge of compensation, benefits, and tax issues as they relate to payroll

  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems. Proficiency with Ceridian DayForce and WorkForce Management and ADP systems is preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills

  • High ethical and professional standards

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines

  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and SQL
